About

About Slough Motion

Slough Motion is an international short film festival born in Lyon, designed as a space for discovery, encounters and movement between films, artists and audiences.

An idea of movement

The meaning of the name

Slough Motion

“Slough” evokes shedding: leaving an old skin behind in order to evolve. Paired with the movement of cinema, the name Slough Motion expresses a simple ambition: to keep images, gazes and stories circulating, and to accompany the transformations of those who create or discover them.

A new festival in Lyon

A new festival in Lyon

Slough Motion Film Festival is driven by a new independent organisation. The 2026 edition takes place in Lyon from September 22 to 26. The festival is building its own identity, its own programming and its own partnerships.

Slough Motion draws on its founder’s experience in organising cinematic events in Lyon, while now standing as an independent project and organisation.

“Keep films circulating, spark encounters and set images in motion.”

Our perspective

Our perspective on the short film

The short film is not a secondary format. It is a space of freedom, experimentation and storytelling capable of producing powerful images in just a few minutes. Slough Motion champions singular, accessible and bold films, without imposing a single way of making cinema.

Local roots

Lyon, a city of cinema and movement

A festival based in Lyon, Slough Motion takes over several cinemas and cultural venues across the city. The programming highlights regional creation through a regional competition, brings local audiences into dialogue with international works and builds collaborations with cultural, economic and institutional players in the area.
